The best play is not prepped or molded but just naturally found outdoors, do you agree? Are you logging the #1000hoursoutside this year? I’m not because I really don’t need another thing to keep track of in this season but I do think it’s a valiant conquest! Anything outdoors is worthwhile in my book. When I don’t know what to do with my three kids and the day feels stuck ➡️ time to get outside. Works everytime. Happy midweek friends!

Hummingbird Rice art 🪶inspired by the pollinators page of “Trees, Leaves, Flowers and Seeds” an encyclopedia of plants that we are looking through this week.

Rice is simple to dye, just add a bit of vinegar and food coloring to a few cups of uncooked rice and swish it all in a ziploc. After you get your desired color lay the rice flat to dry! (Tip- gel colors work best)
.
I made the different colors of rice and then gave my daughter and her friend a little hummingbird sketch and some glue so they could fill in the birds 🤩

Really I am overjoyed at how simple this activity

Really I am overjoyed at how simple this activity is, I don’t know why I didn’t try it sooner!! Nature weaving is amazing! Such an easy way to recycle cardboard, engage your kids and get outside. We found all of this color variety just by walking around our neighborhood. My kids couldn’t have loved this more. Our book this week is an encyclopedia “Trees, Leaves, Flowers and Seeds”. We are loving looking through it noticing things we picked up on our walk. Love the book and highly recommend the activity!

It’s been fun going through this Adventure book

It’s been fun going through this Adventure book and activity workbook this week. Talking about camping and different national parks to visit. I thought it would be really fun to try to paint a VW van and it really was! My son wanted to paint one too so I sketched it out for him and printed it so he could be a little artist. He loves painting and spends so much time with color selection. It’s so fun to watch your kids grow as little artists! Tomorrow morning I’ll have a new YouTube video out on my channel teaching how to paint the classic VW! And for the littles who need assistance I’ve uploaded my sketch to my Freebies section of my website! Morning table fun with the National Parks activity books. My oldest worked on a decoding activity while the other kiddos used playdough and the map to make their own national forests. This was a lot of fun and really easy play without a lot of prep.

Started flipping through the 50 states adventures book today (check out the stories) and can’t wait to get into the activity book tomorrow! So many wonderful National Parks we hope to visit someday! Diving headfirst into a new beautiful book this week. I’m particularly excited for “50 adventures in the 50 states” book and workbook because we so enjoyed the first “50 states” books! If you haven’t checked out these books I highly recommend them.
I’m really into the nostalgia of this book that is both beautiful and educational. I’d describe it as vintage travel postcards brought to life. Check out my stories for some previews and all week we’ll be doing activities from the books 🤩

New year, new schedule. Though I can’t say that

New year, new schedule. Though I can’t say that I’ll be changing a whole lot this year with any drastic resolutions I do know our schedule needs a bit of help. I sat down yesterday to work out the details of a new homeschooling/working/cleaning/living plan. I doubt it will be exactly as pictured in my mind but I think it will help to mix things up and keep the house more in order. I’m bringing in the “daily rhythm” concept by making timing milestones for the day, “get ready” “learning” “reading” “lunch” “electronic time” etc. I’m hoping having new milestones will help us keep moving along. How do you keep everyone on track? Also, if you work from home, what time do you work? Give me your best scheduling tips below 👇

Goodbye 2020 and #falalaintoplay….
Hello to January…. let’s #jumpintoplay! I’m so excited to be guest-hosting for January play!

Join us this January and let our signature play poem, a collaboration between Tracy of @little_home_jones and Jami of @cribcamp, inspire your play. Whether you’re stuck inside in the cold in the United States, wandering the beaches in Dubai, or exploring the forests in the United Kingdom, you’ll be sure to find a prompt that speaks to you, including some of our favorites: recycle, chores and cultures around the world. As we all prepare for 2021 and create goals for ourselves, remember that it is not too early to teach our children about creating resolutions and setting goals for a spectacular new year (hello helping out at home more)! As you’re reading, you’ll find prompts sprinkled throughout the poem and as always, we have included a *players choice* to encourage you to “just go with it!” Read this poem to your children; read it to yourself; read it to your neighbor (from a distance, of course).

The girls are learning to sew which is really exciting to me because I really want to make a quilt with them. After one lesson they started putting squares together themselves which really impressed me. Great handiwork for all of this time at home. Meanwhile, I’m trying to paint everyday 🥀
