I love this photography by James Griffioen  entitled Feral houses. He captures the overgrown dilapidated houses of Detroit. The photographs are the wonderful dichotomy of man and nature and their complex relationship with one another over time.

I have blogged a few times about the subject of nature reclaiming our built environment in  architectural graveyard & ghost buildings I think that the subject is so fascinating and I just can’t get enough of work like these photos.

The work of James Griffioen specifically is capturing a moment of history in the making that speaks loudly of economic distress and in some cases poverty. It would be quite interesting though if the overgrown versions of our environments interacting together was more commonplace. This is the great push for sustainability that exists among many architects today.
